I haven't seen any CGR-prefixes, but these seem to have been around even 10 years ago: ![]() So, CGS means China, Grand Reward, SquierĪpparently the Chinese factories are no longer adding the S for Squier to their serial number prefixes, as the CGRx were later Grand Reward CV guitars, and the CMC ones are the newest Chinese made ones The first C is for China, and then the next one or two letters are for the manufacturer, and the 4th letter, represented by an x in my examples, is the month, so A is Jan. Grand Reward had financial trouble, and doesn't seem to be making any Squiers anymore, but some members over on Squier Talk are now reporting Squier guitars made in China with CMCx prefixes. Some Squiers are also made in China by Yako with CYx prefixes The previous CV and Affinity guitars were also made in China by Grand Reward with CGS and CGRx prefixes Squiers are made in Indonesia by Samick and Cort, with ISS and ICS prefixes on the serial numbers
